August 24, 2024 — The Dean of the College of Fisheries, Prof. Hji. Ronaldo An. Ancheta, conducted a market monitoring activity on the status of “Piyatay Lusih” (Blue Sprat), a vital marine resource found in the coastal waters of Maimbung, Sulu. This initiative aimed to assess the species’ market condition and its contribution to local fisheries and community livelihoods.
The blue sprat holds both ecological and cultural importance, symbolizing the richness of Sulu’s marine biodiversity and the community’s reliance on sustainable fishing practices. This effort supports SDG 14 (Life Below Water) by promoting the responsible management and conservation of marine resources vital to food security and economic stability.
