Integrating Advocacy, Research, and Community Engagement for Sustainable Farming at MSU Sulu IFPC

SDG: 2: Zero hunger | Posted by: Jonel T. Alibasa | Posted: October 21, 2025

On May 7, 2024, the Integrated Farming and Production Center (IFPC) Demo Farm of the MSU Sulu College of Agriculture continued its commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture through advocacy, education, and hands-on implementation of climate-resilient farming systems. With a strong focus on planting staple crops and vegetables to enhance local food security, the IFPC also carries out research and experimentation on crop varieties, soil amendments, and other sustainable farming techniques. Beyond research, the center actively engages the local community through outreach programs, educational events, and participatory activities to raise awareness and promote the adoption of sustainable practices. This holistic approach aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by contributing to food sufficiency, SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening experiential and community-based learning, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by supporting livelihood opportunities in agriculture, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by encouraging resource-efficient practices, SDG 13 (Climate Action) by fostering climate-smart agriculture, SDG 15 (Life on Land) through sustainable land management, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration with stakeholders. The IFPC stands as a model of how research, education, and community empowerment can converge to build a resilient and sustainable agricultural future for Sulu.
