Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) Fertilizer Preparation for Soil Health Management and Sustainable Crop Production at MSU-Sulu IFPC

SDG: 2: Zero hunger | Posted by: Jonel T. Alibasa | Posted: October 21, 2025

On May 5, 2024, the MSU-Sulu College of Agriculture, through its Integrated Farming and Production Center (IFPC), conducted a hands-on training on the preparation of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) fertilizer, a natural biofertilizer derived from rice wash, milk, and molasses. LAB plays a vital role in regulating soil organic matter, detoxifying harmful chemicals, enhancing nutrient cycling, and improving overall plant health. This sustainable practice directly contributes to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by promoting resilient crop production, SDG 4 (Quality Education) by equipping students with applied agricultural biotechnology skills, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers, SDG 13 (Climate Action) by mitigating the environmental impacts of synthetic inputs, and SDG 15 (Life on Land) by supporting healthy soils and biodiversity. Through these innovative, eco-friendly approaches, MSU-Sulu strengthens its commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture and empowering future agricultural leaders.
