Sustainable Organic Waste Management through Vermiculture Substrate Preparation at MSU-Sulu IFPC
SDG: 2: Zero hunger | Posted by: Jonel T. Alibasa | Posted: October 21, 2025
On May 13, 2024, the College of Agriculture at MSU-Sulu, through its Integrated Farming and Production Center (IFPC), conducted the preparation of substrates for vermiculture, a sustainable method of converting biodegradable waste into nutrient-rich organic fertilizer. This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by promoting organic fertilizer for increased crop productivity, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through effective waste recycling, SDG 13 (Climate Action) by reducing carbon footprint and methane emissions from decomposing waste, SDG 15 (Life on Land) by enhancing soil health and biodiversity, and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by integrating sustainable farming practices into academic training and research. By championing vermiculture, MSU-Sulu College of Agriculture strengthens its commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment for a resilient future.
